Concerts, festivals, and all fun things have been put on hold due to the novel Coronavirus pandemic. Of course, the entire world is in this boat together. And although many countries have tackled the virus head on and made serious headway into life returning back to normal, the US is behind the 8-Ball.
Covid cases are rising in nearly every corner of the country, and while Trump refuses to be seen in, or advocate for wearing masks, musicians around the world are putting on masks to benefit some truly fanstasic causes.
Fiona Apple, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, members of TV on the Radio, Grizzly Bear, Cat Power, Fleet Foxes, and more, have rallied together to support the mask benefit campaigns by NOISE FOR NOW and Seeding Sovereignty, which focus on heavily impacted indigenous communities as well as reproductive justice organizations.
“For every mask or bandana purchased, one mask will be donated to the Indigenous Impact Community Care Initiative for distribution among reservations and pueblos,” says Evan Minkser, writer for Pitchfork.
It seems like we’re going to be wearing masks for a while, and it definitely is the case that there are communities far more impacted than the ones we are fortunate enough to live in.
Why not support these amazing causes? I know I’m going to buy a mask, because I’ve always wanted more in common with Fiona Apple.
